Yesterday, I was going out to the deck to pick up a few things, and I looked out into the yard to see the dogs running, and there in Abby’s mouth was a mouse. I ran out to her and told her to drop it, and of course she took off running with this mouse hanging out of her mouth. I kept yelling at her to drop it, and only after I got her cornered did she drop the mouse, well, she took off for the other end of the yard, and low, and behold there was another dead mouse, she picked up and started running with it in her mouth, so I was yelling at her to drop this one, she did, then ran back to get the other one, which she did, with me running up to her to get her to drop that one again. Well, she did, and off to get the other one again, got her to drop that one and off for the other one, well as you can imagine here I am running back, and forth in the yard between the two dead mice, to keep her from eating them.

I was getting so upset with her, I got her cornered again, without a mouse in her mouth, and told her to sit, at this point she knew she was in big trouble, and she took off for the house. I got her in and locked her doggie door, and waited for my husband to come home to take care of the mice.

I am glad she got the mice, we don’t need mice in the yard or in the house, but I did not want her to eat them, and that is just what she was planning when I first saw her.  I was upset with her for not listening to me; she was on a mission to get these mice, and was not going to do what I said.  All the time this was going on Maggie knew Abby was in trouble, and she was not going to stick around, she took off for the house, and did not come back out.

I was so upset with her for not listening to me, I did not even pet her the rest of the afternoon, and you know she knew I was upset, as she kept coming to me sitting in front of me, and putting out her paw for me to shake, and I would not comply with her wishes, so she would go off and sulk. This morning I woke up to her snuggled up with me. Of course I have forgiven her, I just hope she is not a mouser now, for me that would not be a good thing.
